Schedule/Amserlen: 14:45, Castle Emporium (Saesneg/English)

A special Cardiff Activists Cafe for #IndyFest, starting with a talk by Owain Williams.

In 1963, Owain Williams with other members of Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru bombed the site of the Tryweryn dam in an attempt to stop its construction. The dam was eventually finished, resulting in the drowning of a Welsh speaking village, Capel Celyn, to provide water for Liverpool. After serving a prison sentence for his actions, Owain turned to democratic routes of protest and now serves as a councillor on Gwynedd County Council.

Owain will talk about his experiences of standing up and taking action, with some readings from his autobiography “Tryweryn: A Nation Awakes”. This will be followed by structured discussions, hosted by Cardiff Activists Cafe, about when and how we decide to take action.

Cardiff Activists Cafe organise monthly workshops for activists. Using small groups and participatory techniques, they create a friendly atmosphere where everyone has an opportunity to discuss their ideas on what makes effective and meaningful activism.

Digwyddiad arbennig ar gyfer #IndyFest gan Cardiff Activists Cafe, gan ddechrau gyda sgwrs gan Owain Williams.

Yn 1963, fe wnaeth Owain Williams ac aelodau eraill Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru fomio safle argae Tryweryn mewn ymgais i atal ei adeiladu. Gorffennwyd yr argae yn y pen draw, gan arwain at foddi pentref Cymraeg, Capel Celyn, i ddarparu dŵr i drigolion Lerpwl. Ar ôl cael ei ddedfrydu i garchar am ei weithredoedd, fe drodd Owain at ddulliau democrataidd o brotest ac erbyn hyn mae’n gwasanaethu fel cynghorydd ar Gyngor Sir Gwynedd.

Bydd Owain yn siarad am ei brofiadau o sefyll yn erbyn y drefn a gweithredu, ac yn darllen ychydig o’i hunangofiant “Tryweryn: A Nation Awakes”. Dilynir hyn gan drafodaethau strwythuredig, a gynhelir ganCardiff Activists Cafe, yn trafod pryd a sut y dylid penderfynu gweithredu.

Mae’r Cardiff Activists Cafe yn trefnu gweithdai misol i weithredwyr. Gan ddefnyddio grwpiau bach a thechnegau cyfranogol, maent yn creu awyrgylch cyfeillgar lle mae pawb yn cael cyfle i drafod eu syniadau a beth sy’n gwneud gweithredu effeithiol ac ystyrlon.
